A Level 2 charger is a hardwired or dedicated-outlet charging station that runs on a 240 volt circuit, the same kind of power your dryer or range uses. It charges an EV far faster than a standard household outlet, which is why it is the setup most EV owners end up with: plug in at night, leave with a full battery in the morning.
The charger itself is the easy part. The real work is behind the wall: a dedicated circuit sized correctly for the unit, run cleanly from your panel to where the car actually parks, with the panel's capacity verified before anything is installed. What affects the cost of an EV charger install?
The biggest factors are the distance from your panel to where the charger mounts, whether the run passes through finished walls or open framing, the amperage the unit calls for, and whether your panel needs work before it can take the new circuit. A charger next to the panel in a garage is a smaller job than a run across the house to a detached parking spot. We look at all of it during a free estimate and give you the price in writing up front.
EV charging circuits carry heavy current for hours at a stretch, so undersized wiring, worn outlets, and loose connections show up as heat. This is not wiring to improvise. Can I just plug my EV into a regular outlet?
